Jockey Dana Whitney won the 3,000th race of his career when he guided favored Phor Philippe to a three-quarters length victory in the fifth race at Penn National Aug. 21.
The 40-year-old Whitney's milestone came nearly five years after the Philippine-born jockey's 2,000th career win on Aug. 29, 2005.
Phor Philippe, the 6-5 choice in a $12,500 claiming race at six furlongs, rallied three wide in the stretch after a stalking trip to get up in the final strides. The 4-year-old Where's the Ring gelding scored for owner L.B.L. Stable and trainer Sandee Beattie.
With Western Pride, Whitney won the 2001 West Virginia Derby, Ohio Derby (gr. II) and Calder Derby (gr. III).
