Hedge Fund, the only full brother to Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Super Saver  , has been retired from racing. The 7-year-old gelding, who earned $160,699 in four years of racing, will reside at Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm near Versaillies, Ky. WinStar is the breeder and owner of Super Saver.

“We made arrangements to have Hedge Fund come to WinStar Farm and retire him from active racing,” Casner said. “It was time for him to come home, so to speak, to the home of his full brother Super Saver. At WinStar, we feel we have a sincere responsibility to take care of our own, and even though WinStar never had an ownership interest in Hedge Fund, we just thought it would be a crowning star for him to retire to the farm of his full brother.”

Ogden Mills Phipps is the breeder of the Super Saver and Hedge Fund, who initially raced for Phipps. Hedge Fund, who raced for numerous owners later on, won five races and placed in 23 others from 57 starts. He closed out his career racing for a $5,000 claiming tag July 10 at Mountaineer Park. He won by a 12 1/4 lengths.

Elliott Walden, director of racing at WinStar added: “Hedge Fund is now retired and will get all the benefits of living at WinStar. He will not be coming back, ala Brett Favre.”

Hedge Fund is by Maria’s Mon out of the A.P. Indy mare Supercharger.
