More than 400 Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse yearlings have been consigned to the New Mexico-Bred yearling sale to be held Aug. 20-21 at the Ruidoso Horse Sale Pavilion in Ruidoso Downs, N.M.
The sale is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. (MDT) Aug. 20 and 3 p.m. Aug. 21.
W.L. Mooring’s Double LL Farms is the sale’s top consignor with 74 yearlings, 52 of which are Quarter Horses. Double LL’s 22 consigned Thoroughbreds include Adrenalin High, a colt by Tin Can Sailor and half brother to four-time stakes winner Glory Be Mine, and Key Tune, an Elijah’s Tune colt who is a half brother to five-time stakes winner Key’s Band.
Weatherly Horse Farms has consigned 29 yearlings to the sale, including 28 Thoroughbreds.
Two 2009 New Mexico-Bred yearling sale graduates, the Quarter Horse Streak Of Sixes and the Thoroughbred Red Rock Springs, have thus far had successful 2-year-old seasons.
Red Rock Springs is a colt by Your Eminence owned and trained by Tony Sedillo of New Mexico. Acquired at last year’s sale for $9,700, Red Rock Springs has banked $81,745, and his two victories in six outs include the $136,221 Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity at Ruidoso Downs.
The sale will include a buyer’s seminar Aug. 21 from 10-11 a.m. The seminar will include discussions on conformation critique and yearling selection by leading trainers, veterinary concerns, and understanding sale catalog terminology.
