The North American Pari-Mutuel Regulators Association has canceled its fall convention, scheduled for Sept. 14-18 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in light of this Tuesday's terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.

The NAPRA board of directors, during a conference call, voted to cancel the convention due to the national situation. They also said that, with the uncertainty of airline travel, it would be prudent to cancel the convention.

It was a difficult decision given the fact that Leary Claypool, manager of the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, put a tremendous amount of effort into hosting a first-class convention, NAPRA officials said.

"Out of respect to the victims of Tuesday's tragedy, we elected to cancel our Saskatoon convention," NAPRA executive director Frank Lamb said. "This is a difficult time, and a time for prayer for the victims and their families."
