Breeders' Cup officials have only just begun thinking about how the World Trade Center disaster could affect the World Thoroughbred Championships at Belmont Park on October 27.
"We are primarily concerned about what we can do to help and support the victims," said Breeders' Cup president D. G. Van Clief Jr. "We are just starting to think about the ramifications of those events on racing in the New York area."
As of now, there is no reason to consider moving the event, Van Clief said.
"The decisions we are making as far as the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships and the racing industry are concerned are being made hour-by-hour," he said. "The ramifications of yesterday's events will be profound for weeks to come for the country."
