Attacks Disrupt Daily Racing Form, Thoro-Graph Operations

The attacks in New York

In a statement posted on the Form's Website, editor and publisher Steven Crist said it would be Thursday at the earliest before normal operations resume and that it could be even longer before the Form can provide the usual statistical information or to have it available on the Website. Crist said the Form would use its regional offices and print sites outside New York to help make up for the disruption.

Crist noted that apparently no DRF employees were victims of the attacks. "We are grateful that our DRF family has apparently escaped intact, and we extend our thoughts and hearts to the many who were not so fortunate," Crist said.

Another racing entity located in New York that had no human loss but will have services interrupted is Thoro-Graph, which has its Internet servers located in the Form offices.

"Thoro-Graph is not interested in pursuing the immediate restoration of our site," the company said in an e-mail sent to customers. "The downtown area of New York City below 14th street (including our office) is effectively closed on Wednesday. The area below Canal Street has been evacuated. Many, if not all, tracks have already announced they will be closed on Wednesday. If racing resumes on Thursday, we probably will not be able to produce sheets. After that, we'll just have to wait and see. We will update you as soon as possible with any changes. If there are absolutely urgent matters, please contact us through this email address boeing@escape.com"
