On Tuesday, the Meadowlands Sports Complex, site of the Meadowlands Racetrack, Giants Stadium and Continental Airlines Arena, was converted into a staging area for rescue efforts for victims of the World
Trade Center terrorist attack in nearby Manhattan. Several hundred emergency vehicles from New Jersey municipalities converged on the East Rutherford, N.J., location to await further instructions.
Additionally, passengers on the ferry service between New York and New Jersey were transported by bus to the Meadowlands Sports Complex, which served as a drop-off point.
Wednesday's nine-race program at Meadowlands has been cancelled in the wake of Tuesday's deadly terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., with scheduling for the remainder of the week on a day-to-day basis.
