Jockey Gibbs Injured at Penn National

Jockey Craig Gibbs was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center late July 24 after being injured in a spill at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.

According to a release from the Pennsylvania track, the accident occurred during the fourth race when Gibbs, 22, was riding owner-trainer Margaret Alexander’s Smokin Queenie in the 1 1/16-mile grass race for $25,000 maiden claiming fillies and mares. The local Equibase trackman noted that "Smokin Queenie was close up and along the inside early, angled outward along the backstretch, and fell," the release said.

The track did not disclose the nature of Gibb’s injuries.

A Maryland native who began his career in his home state before relocating to Pennsylvania late last fall, Gibbs has 30 wins, 27 seconds and 26 thirds from 271 mounts at Penn National.
