Breeder/Owner James Gammon Dies

James Gammon, who campaigned homebred grade II winner Penny Blues, died July 16 in California of cancer. He was 70.

Gammon and his wife, Nancy, were the breeders of Penny Blues, who raced for Gammon and Don Johnson. The two men starred in the television series “Nash Bridges.”

Penny Blues captured two stakes, including the 2000 Santa Ynez Stakes (gr. II).

Gammon appeared in numerous movies, including the popular "Major League," playing Cleveland Indians manager Lou Brown, who guided a team of underachievers to the American League pennant.

Gammon’s survivors include his wife and two daughters.
