Quality Road Blazes Five Furlongs for Whitney

Quality Road , winner of the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) in his last start, did his best to try to scare away most of his rivals in the Aug. 7 Whitney Stakes (gr. I), breezing five furlongs in :58 3/5 at Belmont July 18, the fastest of 22 works at the distance.
The son of Elusive Quality is expected to square off against Stephen Foster (gr. I) winner Blame in the 1 1/8-mile Whitney.
The second-fastest work at the distance Sunday was stablemate Super Saver , who breezed in 1:00 flat. The winner of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) is pointing for the $1 million IZOD Haskell Invitational (gr. I) Aug. 1.
Also working for the Haskell Sunday was Withers (gr. III) winner Afleet Again, whose five-furlong drill in 1:00 2/5 at Monmouth was the second-fastest of 34 works at the distance.
Another Pletcher 3-year-old pointing for an upcoming stake is Aikenite , who breezed five furlongs in 1:00 3/5 at Belmont. He could run next in the Jim Dandy Stakes (gr. II) July 31. Another option for 3-year-olds is the West Virginia Derby (gr. III).
