Kentucky Horseman Arnold Dies

Veteran Kentucky horseman George R. Arnold Sr. died July 4. The Lexington native was 83.

Arnold owned Fair Acres Farm near Lexington with his son, Terry, who manages Dixiana Farm near Lexington.

The elder Arnold was the breeder of several stakes winners alone and in partnership. Eternal Star, by Five Star Day  , won six stakes, including the 2009 Commonwealth Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland. Arnold also was the breeder of stakes winners Clan Lake, Classy Carlotta, Foolish Intent, Golden Ribet, Munden Miss, and Annie’s Apple, who was raced in partnership.

A Navy veteran of World War II, Arnold also is survived by a son, trainer George “Rusty” Arnold II, and two daughters.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 9, at 12:30 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, Ky., 40504, or Grace Baptist Church, 811 Bryan Ave., Lexington, Ky., 40505.
