Zenyatta worked at Hollywood Park in 1:01.20, posting the 10th quickest work out of 45 horses working at that distance at the Southern California track. The striking daughter of Street Cry holds the modern day record of 17 consecutive wins in races no restricted to state-breds. She broke the record in the June 13 Vanity Handicap (gr. I). Her next start has not been announced.
Across the country, reigning Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra worked at Saratoga in 1:01.30. She had the fastest work at that distance but only two other horses worked five furlongs. One of those horses was Friesan Fire , the 2009 Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands favorite, who worked 1:01.50. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro is being aimed for the July 24 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park. The $400,000 ungraded race is run at 1 1/8 miles.
