Four stallions that previously stood at Marty and Pam Wygod’s River Edge Farm near Buellton, Calif., will stand the 2011 breeding season at Don Cohn’s Ballena Vista Farm near Ramona, Calif.
The Wygods announced in June that they would be closing up their California breeding operation and selling their remaining California stock at Barrett’s in October. They are seeking a buyer for River Edge as they concentrate on their equine stock in Kentucky.
Ballena Vista Farm purchased 100% of Benchmark and a majority interest in Dixie Chatter and Tribal Rule . The fourth River Edge stallion, Bertrando, will stand at Ballena Vista as the property of the syndicate that has owned him for eight years.
“It’s great for the industry in California that someone like Don, with a first-class facility, is stepping up his involvement in the breeding industry,” said Marty Wygod. “I really wanted to keep the stallions in California, and Don’s commitment will be a huge benefit for the state, so it worked out great.”
In a statement, Cohn added, “I am thrilled with the fortuitous opportunity to purchase and stand stallions of the quality of Tribal Rule, Dixie Chatter, and Benchmark. My staff and I are looking forward to maintaining the high level of excellence that Marty and River Edge have brought to the California breeding industry over the years. We feel truly blessed to have been given this opportunity.”
