Good Reward, a two-time grade I winner, came through with his first winner in the United States when his Washington-bred son Tactician triumphed at Emerald Downs June 27. Making his initial start, Tactician won the five-furlong race by 1 1/4 lengths in :57.80 for owners John and Janene Maryanski.

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick L. Pabst are the breeders of Tactician, who is the second winner from the stakes-placed Homebuilder mare Coasting Home.

Good Reward, whose first winner, Giolitti scored in Italy June 10, scored major wins in the 2004 Hollywood Derby (gr. IT) and the 2005 Manhattan Handicap (gr. IT). Good Reward (Storm Cat--Heavenly Prize, by Seeking the Gold) stands for $5,000 at Robert N. Clay’s Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky.
