Video Streaming of Welfare and Safety Summit

The third Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit on June 28-29 at the Keeneland Sales Pavilion in Lexington will be available via a live video stream.

According to a release from The Jockey Club, all of the June 28 session and one June 29 session will be open to the public and available by video stream at keeneland.com.

The summit focusing on equine health and safety issues is coordinated and underwritten by The Jockey Club and Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation, and hosted by Keeneland Association.

The June 28 session begins at 8 a.m. EDT and will include a panel discussion on racetrack surfaces followed by updates on the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association Safety and Integrity Alliance, the Thoroughbred Safety Committee’ and the Equine Injury Database. The afternoon session, which begins at 1 p.m., will feature panel discussions on racing equipment and safety, racetrack environment and safe training practices, and transitioning Thoroughbred racehorses to second careers.

Following closed work group sessions and identification of goals and objectives, the June 29 open session will begin at 11 a.m. and consist of a panel discussion on implementation of safety and soundness recommendations.
