Line of David  , who won this year’s Arkansas Derby (gr. I), has been retired from racing. He has been purchased by B. Wayne Hughes, who plans to stand the son of Lion Heart at his Spendthrift Farm near Lexington.

Making his stakes debut in the April 10 Arkansas Derby, Line of David defeated Super Saver, the subsequent winner of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), and grade I winner Dublin in front-running fashion.

Campaigned throughout his career by Ike and Dawn Thrash and trained by John Sadler, Line of David retired from racing with three wins from seven starts and earnings of $662,000. In what was his last start, he finished unplaced in the Kentucky Derby.

Sabine Stable is the breeder of Florida-bred Line of David, who is out of the winning Capote mare Emma’s Dilemma and is a half-brother to stakes-placed McVictory. Line of David’s third dam, Lillian Russell, is a half-sister to Mr. Prospector.

Line of David, whose fee will be announced later, is expected to arrive at Spendthrift this week.
