Krisam Group, a national sales organization representing member hotels and resorts, will host its annual Destination Showcase June 11 from 4-11 p.m. in Louisville, Ky.

The “Downs after Dark” racing event will be held at Churchill Downs race track. The showcase will bring together a dozen of Krisam’s premier hotel properties from around the country to meet and network with meeting planners and conference organizers.

During this event, Krisam will recognize a special guest of honor, Julia Brimo, a 34-year-old jockey from Canada. In October 2009, Brimo was in a riding accident that nearly left her a quadriplegic while in a race at Keeneland in Kentucky.

Seven months after the accident and through tremendous determination, Brimo is now running four miles a day and has her sights set on riding again. "Riding is what I love to do," she said. "It is all I want to do. I wanted to ride again this spring, but unfortunately my right arm is still a little sleepy, so I'll have to wait until the fall."

Brimo’s connection to Krisam is by way of her sister, Suzanne Mahabir, a Canadian meeting planning professional who uses Krisam sales representative Traci Baxter to assist with site searches for her meetings and events.

To honor Brimo and her recovery, the seventh race of the evening will be named, “Krisam Group Honors Julia Brimo." As part of this honor, Brimo will present the winning trophy in the winner’s circle, along with Krisam Group president, Jim Schultenover.
