Eunice Greely, mother of former Keeneland president Bill Greely and Wintergreen Farm owner Bud Greely, died Wednesday at age 86. She is the grandmother of Kevin Greely, director of racing for the Dubai Racing Club; Sean Greely, racing secretary at The Meadowlands and Monmouth Park; John Greely, manager of Wintergreen; and Beau Greely, a California-based trainer. She was the widow of John Greely Jr., a well-known trainer who died in 1973....Kentucky sportscaster
Cawood Ledford died Sept. 5 at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was 75. Ledford was best known as the radio voice of the Kentucky Wildcats, calling basketball and football games for 39 years. However, Ledford also was nationally known for his horse racing coverage and for 22 years called the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), either for WHAS or the CBS radio network. He received an Eclipse Award for excellence in broadcasting on three separate occasions. His wife, Frances; a brother, Jim; and a sister, Eloise, survive Ledford. Funeral services are pending with Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan, Ky. Theresa Richardson, wife of Donald R. Richardson, Churchill Downs Incorporated's senior vice president of racing, died Sept. 3, at University of Louisville Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was 54.
