Roar of the Tiger, a full brother to 2009 leading sire Giant's Causeway , died the night of May 24 at Hartley/De Renzo, Walmac South near Ocala, Fla. The cause of death is unknown.
The 11-year-old son of Storm Cat was sent to the University of Florida to determine the cause of death.
Roar of the Tiger, who entered stud at Hartley/De Renzo, Walmac South in 2005, is represented by the earners of $2.1 million and four stakes horses. They include 2010 stakes winner Gator Prowl and 2009 Canadian graded winner Bear Tough Guy. Roar of the Tiger stood this year for $6,000.
Roar of the Tiger is out of grade II winner Mariah’s Storm (by Rahy). In addition to Roar of the Tiger and Giant’s Causeway, Mariah’s Storm produced four other stakes performers by Storm Cat.
Roar of the Tiger initially raced for Sue Magnier, whose husband, John Magnier, is managing partner of Irish-based Coolmore Stud. Roar of the Tiger was bred by Coolmore associate Michael Tabor and Spectrum Bloodstock S.A.
As a racehorse, Roar of the Tiger won four of 11 races and earned $97,184. In what was his last start, he ran third in the 2004 Governor’s Handicap at Ellis Park for owner Dwight D. Sutherland.
