Ron Turcotte, the jockey who swept the Triple Crown in 1973 with Secretariat only to see his career end in an accident five years later, will be featured May 30 on HRTV’s "Inside Information" program.
The segment, titled "31 Lengths: The Lives of Secretariat, Ron Turcotte," will air at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
Turcotte, who also road Riva Ridge to victory in the 1972 Kentucky Derby, was paralyzed in a spill at Belmont Park on July 13, 1978. He was honored with the Order of Canada in 1974 and inducted into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in 1979 -- the same year he was bestowed the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award.
Turcotte has been active in various charitable causes, including the March of Dimes and Permanently Disabled Jockey’s Fund.
