Monmouth Park releases
Jockey Garrett Gomez was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune May 22 after being unseated from his mount Jadal at the start of the seventh race on Monmouth Park’s opening day card.
Following the eighth race, jockey Carlos H. Marquez Jr. was taken to Jersey Shore after being unseated from his mount, Back Pocket Money, during the post parade.
“It’s precautionary X-rays,” said Angelo Chinnici, medical director for the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority, regarding Gomez. “He was awake and alert. There is no neurological deficit, but after reviewing the videotape of the fall, we agreed it was best to rule out any potential of a more serious injury.
“Carlos was complaining of left hip and pelvic pain,” said Chinnici of Marquez. “His motor functions are intact. He has a possible pelvic fracture, so I sent him for X-rays either to confirm or rule that out.”
Earlier in the card, Marquez rode a natural hat-trick, taking the fourth race atop Partyallnightlong ($6.60), winning the Decathlon Stakes with Congressional Page ($6.20), and the sixth with Timeless Classic ($38.60).
Gomez piloted Precious Package ($3.60) to win the second race on the program.
