Pimlico Race Course could be hit by thunderstorms the afternoon and evening of May 14, but the forecast calls for dry, pleasant conditions for the May 15 Preakness Stakes (gr. I).
Preakness entrants jogged Friday morning on a main track that had dried out considerably from the heavy rain of May 12. Midway through the May 13 racing program, the track was upgraded to fast.
As of 10:30 a.m. EDT Friday, with the sun breaking through and the temperature rapidly rising, races were scheduled to remain on the turf. The possibility of storms is from 3 p.m.-midnight, according to forecasts.
No rain is forecast for Saturday, with a high temperature of about 75 degrees predicted.
The lone graded stakes Friday is the grade II Black-Eyed Susan Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on the main track. Post time is set for 5:50 p.m.
