Albert Fried Jr.'s Affirmed Success worked five-eighths of a mile in :59.02 over the Oklahoma grass training track at Saratoga on Monday in preparation for Sunday's CAN$1-million Atto Mile at Woodbine. The 7-year-old son of Affirmed trained by Richard Schosberg will be ridden by Hall of Famer Jerry Bailey as he seeks to improve on last year's third-place effort in the Canadian race.
"He worked super this morning," said Schosberg, who plans to ship Affirmed Success to Canada on Wednesday. "He looks tremendous. He always runs well fresh and I think we're coming up to the Mile in good shape. We'll just need a little luck once we get there."
Also working over the Oklahoma grass toward the Atto Mile, was Tom Van Meter's Brahms, who drilled four furlongs in: 47.65 seconds for trainer Elliott Walden. Meanwhile, Gainsborough Farm's Irish Prize breezed four furlongs in :50 4/5 over the Del Mar turf course for Neil Drysdale.
Probables for the Atto Mile are Affirmed Success, Blast of Storm, Brahms, City West, Dawson's Legacy, Hard Currency, Kimberlite Pipe, Irish Prize, Numerous Times, Quiet Resolve, Redattore, Red Sea, and Slew Valley.
