(Edited Churchill Downs press release)
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert cut his number of Preakness (gr. I) prospects in half May 7 by declaring Conveyance out of the second jewel of the Triple Crown May 15 at Pimlico.
“He’s not going,” Baffert said of the Kentucky Derby Presented By Yum! Brands (gr. I) pacesetter, who finished 15th in the 1 ¼-mile classic.
Owned by Zabeel Racing International, Conveyance has won the Southwest (gr. III) and San Rafael (gr. III) stakes this year. The 3-year-old son of Indian Charlie also finished second in the Sunland Derby (gr. III).
Lookin At Lucky , the Kentucky Derby favorite who finished sixth behind Super Saver , galloped a mile and a half after the renovation break under Peter Hutton at Churchill Downs.
“I am just taking it day by day with him,” said Baffert, who has won the Preakness four times. “He is still 51% (to go).”
