Greg Gilchrist, who trained 2005’s champion sprinter, Lost in the Fog, is retiring from training, the Daily Racing Form reported May 4. The Northern California-based conditioner told the publication he would saddle his final runner, Island of Zen, May 5 at Hollywood Park.

Gilrchist, 62, will do some work as a bloodstock agent, according to the Form. He had been contemplating a change since last fall and had considered moving his base of operations to Southern California.

"I always thought I'd be a trainer till I was 100," Gilchrist told the Form. "It makes me sad walking away from it, but I'm not walking away from the sport I knew."
