Red Ransom came through with his 100th stakes winner when his son Snow Alert won the XXXX Gold Hawkesbury Rowley Mile (Aust-I) at Hawkesbury May 1. The victory, worth $66,500 (Australian funds), upped the Australian-bred gelding’s career earnings to $298,730 (Australian funds).

Red Ransom, who was euthanized last November at age 22 while standing at Tom Simon’s Vinery Australia, is represented as a stallion by 57 grade/group winners across the globe. They include Eclipse Award winner Perfect Sting, winner of the 2000 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT), plus 2006 Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) winner Electrocutionist, Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) winner Bail Out Becky, Vodafone Epsom Oaks (Eng-I) winner Casual Look, and English champions Intikhab and Titian Time. Red Ransom’s Australian stakes winners include group I winners All American, Charge Forward, Duporth, and Typhoon Tracy.

Red Ransom is the second son of Roberto to reach the century mark by number of stakes winners. Dynaformer  , the first one, stands at Robert N. Clay’s Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. He celebrated his 112th stakes winner May 1 when his daughter Dynaslew won the Beaugay Stakes (gr. IIIT) in New York.

Retired from racing after just three starts for breeder/owner Paul Mellon, Red Ransom entered stud at Ben P. Walden Jr.’s Dearborn/Vinery near Midway, Ky. Simon later purchased the farm, which now is named Vinery. Red Ransom also stood for a time at Sheikh Mohammed’s Dalham Hall Stud in England.

Red Ransom, out of the Damascus mare Arabia, also has been in the news as a broodmare sire. His maternal granddaughter Devil May Care, a grade I winner last year at 2, has won this year’s Bonnie Miss Stakes (gr. II). She ran unplaced in the May 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. II).
