Manistique Tops 505 Farms Dispersal

Millionaire Manistique was purchased by Aaron and Marie Jones for $3-million to top Barretts Equine Ltd.'s first phase of the dispersal of the late Marshall Naify's 505 Farms. A 5-year-old daughter of Unbridled who earned $1,311,800 while winning 11 of 15 starts, including three grade I races, Manistique was sold as a broodmare prospect. Second-highest price of $2.6-million was paid by Visionary Corp. for David Copperfield, a 3-year-old colt who had the distinction of beating eventual Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus in each of their career debuts. Visionary Corp. was the sale's top buyer, with three horses bought for a total of $3,560,000. The identity of Visionary Corp's owners was not disclosed. In addition to David Copperfield, Visionary Corp. purchased 4-year-old gelding Cliquot for $450,000 and the Devil's Bag filly Mistinguette for $510,000.

With Narvick International acting as agent for the 505 Farms dispersal, Barretts reported 93 horses sold for a gross of $18,238,500, an average price of $196,113 and a median of $80,000.
