Cashier's Dream Rolls in Spinaway
Cashier's Dream was ridden by Donnie Meche and is trained by Steve Asmussen. The filly is owned by Heiligbrodt Racing and Team Valor. She paid $2.60, 2.30, and $2.10.Smok'n Frolic finished second and paid $4.80 and $2.10. Magic Storm finished third and paid $2.10."We just won a grade I at Saratoga, I think I'll let that sink in," said Asmussen. "I felt very good about her energy level, and the fact that she stayed consistent. I get nervous every time I run her because she's special. I'm proud with how she acted today coming off her defeat (in the Adirondack). That should definitely get the memories of the loss out of her head. It's nice to know this is a filly that can dig down deep. She's king [stet] of the world today in her own mind and that's important to us. If this was the only race I won all meet, I would still consider this a successful meet. She was much better in the paddock today. She was a little warm before the Adirondack. I have to keep her energy level up. She'll go the Belmont with the rest of this stable. That's a good place for her and there are a lot of possibilities."The Spinaway winner joined Asmussen's barn after breeder and trainer, James Jackson, sold her following a three-length allowance win at Churchill Downs on June 20. The filly had previously won a $50,000 maiden claimer."This is one of the biggest wins of my career. I couldn't be here without Steve (Asmussen)," Meche said. "She showed what she's about, coming back on only 17 days rest. She didn't have to dig in today, but she ran really hard. She's a little filly, but she's all heart. You don't feel like you're going :21 and :44 on her. She's kind enough that I think she'll stretch out."Trainer Todd Pletcher was pleased with Smok'n Frolic's effort."I thought she ran a terrific race," Pletcher said. "I was particularly happy with the way she finished up. She galloped out strong, which is encouraging when you think she might run a little bit farther. She displaced her (soft) palate in her last race [the Adirondack], and we made a couple of equipment changes. Johnny (Velazquez) let her run her race."Magic Storm was a distant third, with Pieceofperfection, Spirit and Soul, Al Max Diner and Win's Fair Lady far behind. |
