The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. spring sale of 2-year-olds in training picked up steam April 20 during its second session in Central Florida, generating increases of 28.2% in gross, 29.4% in average price, and 33.3% in median price from a year ago.

The most expensive horse sold was a Pico Central filly, which brought $200,000. Steve Shahinian, agent for Harvey Clark, purchased the chestnut juvenlle from Eddie Woods, agent.

The filly, which worked three furlongs in :33, is a half sister to the winner Aerin She Lovely (by Birdstone). Their dam, the unraced Cherokee Run mare Strawberrydaiquiri, is a half sister to 2004 Louisiana Derby (gr. II) winner Wimbledon (by Wild Rush).

Quarter Pole had purchased the session-topper for only $9,000 from Summerfield, agent, at the OBS August yearling auction.

The spring sale’s second session results included a gross of $6,441,000 for the 209 horses that sold. The average was $30,818, and the median was $20,000. The buy-back rate was 16.7%, down from 19.8% in 2009.

The OBS auction runs through April 22, with each session starting at 10:30 a.m. (EDT).
