Westrock Stables’ Tidal Pool, trained by D. Wayne Lukas, would be the last one in the maximum 14-horse field allowed for the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) if the race for 3-year-old fillies were held today.
The Oaks will be run at Churchill Downs in Louisville on April 31.
Like the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), the Oaks field is determined in preference order based on purses earned in graded stakes. Based on that criteria, last year’s 2-year-old filly champion She Be Wild is first, with $1,312,100 in graded earnings, followed by Blind Luck, with $1,041,150.
According to a list released April 14 by Churchill Downs racing secretary Ben Huffman, Tidal Pool’s $70,004 is 14th on the list. First one out, based on graded earnings, is Starlight Partners Ailalea, with $69,900.
