Although the race is a week away, it appears that less than a handful of horses will face impressive Officer in next Wednesday's grade II Del Mar Futurity, the closing day feature at Del Mar.
The Bob Baffert-trained son of Bertrando has won his three career outings by a total of 22 lengths. Officer broke his maiden with a six-length romp over other California-breds in his first start, rolled by nine over state-breds in the Graduation Stakes, and won the grade III Best Pal Stakes by seven lengths.
According to Del Mar, the only two others confirmed for the seven-furlong Futurity are Kamsack and Historic Speech, both maiden winners at the Del Mar meet who will have to be supplemented for a fee of $10,000 each.
On the "probable" list are Essence of Dubai, who finished third to Officer in the Best Pal, and the maiden Striking Song.
