Franny Freud, second behind Amen Hallelujah in the Santa Ynez Stakes (gr. II), and Florida Oaks (gr. III) winner Diva Delite will square off against each other April 7 as the top two choices on the morning line for Keeneland’s Beaumont Stakes (gr. II). The Beaumont, run over the Beard Course of seven furlongs, 184 feet, is for 3-year-old fillies and is worth $150,000.
New York-bred Franny Freud was a three-time stakes winner last year, winning twice against state-breds, then landing the Ontario Debutante over Woodbine’s Polytrack layout. On the main track last year she ran fifth behind Devil May Care in the Frizette Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont.
Trained by John Terranova, she races for Paul Pompa Jr., Stephen Yarbrough and Winter Park Partners. By Giant's Causeway ’s full brother Freud , Franny Freud was bred in New York by Anthony Grey. For the Beaumont, her first start since the Jan. 16 Santa Ynez at Santa Anita, Franny Freud worked four furlongs in :48 2/5 the morning of April 2 at Keeneland. She is the 9-5 morning line favorite.
Dominic Vittese and Barbara Vivian’s Diva Delite is pegged at 5-2 on the morning line. She’ll be making her 15th career start in the Beaumont and was last seen pulling away to win Tampa Bay Downs’ 1 1/16-miles Florida Oaks by two lengths for her fifth win in a row. Earlier she had annexed the seven-furlong Gasparilla Stakes and mile-and-70-yard Suncoast Stakes on Florida’s west coast.
A daughter of Repent , the filly was bred in Florida by Clover Leaf Farms II.
Adding intrigue to the Beaumont are the fillies Rashed Salman’s Chantilly Nayla, recent winner of the Mardi Gras Stakes at Fair Grounds for trainer Neil Pessin, and Kawiye, a daughter of Tapit who returns to North America after winning a pair of races in Peru. Bred by Warren and Mike McIntyre, the filly was sold for $4,500 as a weanling during the 11th session of the 15-day Keeneland November sale in 2007.
