NBC reported overnight television ratings of 1.7 for its April 3 “Road to the Kentucky Derby” program featuring coverage of the Wood Memorial Stakes and Santa Anita Derby (both gr. I) from 5-6 p.m ET. The races featured the two likely favorites for the Run for the Roses as Eskendereya won the Wood and Lookin at Lucky finished a troubled third at Santa Anita.
One overnight ratings point equals approximately 770,000 households, meaning that about 1.2-million households were tuned into the racing coverage. This marked a significant increase from a week earlier, when the NBC-affiliated USA Network attracted an audience of 420,000 to its March 27 coverage of the Louisiana Derby (gr. II) and Lane’s End Stakes (gr. II), earning a .33 rating.
The third and final “Road to the Kentucky Derby” program will air Sat., April 10, on NBC with live coverage of the Arkansas Derby (gr. I) from Oaklawn Park and the the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) from Keeneland.
NBC will also be home for the May 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and the May 15 Preakness Stakes (gr. I).
