Zayat Horses in Keeneland April Juvenile Sale

Hip#120, Bernsteinâ€"Spies in My Midst colt is one of the Zayat horses in the Keeneland April sale of 2-year-olds in training.

Ahmed Zayat, whose Zayat Stables filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy earlier this year, has five horses in the Keeneland April sale of 2-year-olds in training as part of the McKathan Bros. consignment. All were purchased at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale, and their prices ranged from $25,000 to $260,000.

Four horses – three bred by Zayat and one bought for $80,000 at Keeneland last September -- had been scratched as of April 3.

Zayat Stables filed for bankruptcy after Zayat was sued by Fifth Third Bank, which said he had defaulted on loans totaling more than $34 million. Keeneland has a claim against Zayat in the amount of $2,381,500 on horses bought through the sale company.

The Keeneland juvenile auction is scheduled for April 5 in Lexington. The Zayat horses that will be offered include an Indian Charlie–Fast an Sexy filly that is a half-sister to stakes winner Swede, a Broken Vow  –Go Again Valid colt that is a half-brother to added-money winner Belong Again, and a Bernstein–Spies in My Midst colt.
