With its marathon September yearling sale around the corner, Keeneland Association has announced changes in its Internet auction system.
According to sales director Geoffrey Russell, changes in the Keeneland Internet Auction system are a result of feedback from buyers and consignors as well as imput from Keeneland personnel. Russell said the changes are designed to make the system "even more user-friendly." Keeneland's fall yearling sale begins Sept. 10 and concludes Sept. 22.
One of the biggest changes involves the entry, posting, and selling times of horses offered on the Internet, affording more time for potential buyers to review the horses being offered. The new schedule also eliminates overlap between the Internet sales and live sales and late-night auction closings, according to the release from Russell.
Under the new schedule, entries received by noon on Sept. 14, 18, and 24 will be posted to the KIA site after 5:00 p.m. that same day. Bidding on all auction entries begins at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26. Bidding closes in hip order, at five-minute intervals, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. daily beginning Sept. 27
For example, an RNA horse submitted at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 16 will be posted on the site after 5:00 p.m. Sept. 18. Internet bidding on that horse begins at 9:00 a.m. Sept. 26. Depending on the horse's hip number, bidding will close sometime after 2:00 p.m. Sept. 27.
Ending dates and times will be adjusted by Keeneland, based on the number of horses entered in the Internet auction.
In another change, Keeneland will make available an electronic file containing a scanned image of veterinary statements, when available, for horses entered in the Internet auction.
