Proud Spell, the champion 3-year-old filly of 2008, produced her first foal March 29 at Brereton Jones’ Airdrie Stud near Midway, Ky.

The foal is a filly by Airdrie stallion Indian Charlie.

Racing as a homebred for Jones, Proud Spell rose to prominence with a win in the 2007 Matron Stakes (gr. II) as a 2-year-old. The daughter of Proud Citizen  Pacific Spell, by Langfuhr   followed up that effort with a runner-up finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I). Her most important wins came in the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) and Alabama Stakes (gr. I) in 2008, a year in which she also captured the Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) and Delaware Oaks (gr. II) en route to the 3-year-old filly championship. She was trained by Larry Jones.

Proud Spell retired in early 2009 with seven wins from 13 starts and earnings of $2,131,610. She is booked to 2009 leading second crop sire Medaglia d'Oro   for 2010.
