Earle I. Mack has purchased a 90% interest in the stakes-winning colt Turf Melody, who most recently finished fourth in the March 6 Gotham Stakes (gr. III) at Aqueduct. Turf Melody will race in Mack’s colors.

“Turf Melody is an exciting colt who seems to be moving forward at the right time,” said Mack. ‘I have every confidence in his trainer, Graham Motion, who is pointing him to either the Wood Memorial (gr. II) or the Illinois Derby (gr. II).”

Both stakes are April 3.

A son of Maria's Mon out of the Storm Bird mare Tricky Bird, Turf Melody has won three of nine lifetime starts and placed twice. After breaking his maiden in his second start at 2, Turf Melody placed in the Spectacular Bid Stakes and Swynford Stakes, before winning the Springboard Mile Stakes two starts later. As a 3-year-old this year, Turf Melody has finished unplaced in the Le Comte Stakes (gr. III) and Gotham Stakes (gr. III). He has earned $187,726.

Mack has purchased the interest from Priscilla Graham, who bought Turf Melody for $200,000 at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale. Turf Melody was bred in Kentucky by Bruce and Leslie Berenson.

A longtime owner and breeder, Mack has bred and/or raced such top runner as November Snow, Excellent Tipper, Peteski, Mr. Light, Que Puntual, Savedbythelight, and Icabad Crane.
