Fifth Straight Win for Beezer; Vicar Last

Seven-year-old Leave It to Beezer's career-best year continued Saturday with a win in the Salvator Mile Handicap (gr. III) at Monmouth Park. The win marks Leave It to Beezer's fifth consecutive victory, the last four of which have come in stakes races. Under Roberto Alvarado Jr., Leave It to Beezer completed the mile in 1:37.29 over a fast track.
Leo Gaspari Racing Stable's Leave It to Beezer dueled with pacesetter Delaware Township through the stretch before pulling away to a 1 1/4-length victory at the wire. Prime Directive finished third, five lengths behind Delaware Township. Cornish Snow and Vicar completed the order of finish.
Leave It to Beezer (Henbane--Blue Shocker, by Copelan) has won eight of 11 starts this year and has yet to finish worse than third as a 7-year-old. His current winning streak includes wins in the Baltimore Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III), the listed Elkwood Stakes, and the $40,000 Norristown Handicap. The winner's share of $90,000 brings the Scott Lake trainee's career total to $518,806. He has 21 career wins from 65 starts and has made 10 or more starts every year since debuting in 1996. He was bred in Florida by C. Harold Kitchen.
