Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra worked an easy half-mile in :50.40 at Fair Grounds the morning of March 22 in her first timed move since her narrow loss to Arnold Zetcher’s Zardana in the $200,000 New Orleans Ladies March 13.
“They didn’t ask her to do too much,” said Fair Grounds clocker and morning linemaker Mike Diliberto, in a release. “She was well in hand the whole way.”
Following the New Orleans Ladies, trainer Steve Asmussen and owner Jess Jackson announced that Rachel Alexandra was no longer pointed toward the April 9 Apple Blossom (gr. I) at Oaklawn Park, where she was supposed to face the undefeated Zenyatta. It is still unknown when the daughter of Medaglia d'Oro will race next.
