Just over a year after suffering her first career defeat, Hallowed Dreams failed to keep her date at the winner's circle following a third-place finish in Sunday's $49,000 Monique Rene Handicap at Louisiana Downs.Even with the loss 4-year-old Hallowed Dreams still owns a stellar career record of 23 wins from 25 starts, but in the month of August the daughter of Malagra has a more ordinary record of one win in three tries. Last August, at the end of a long campaign, Hallowed Dreams finished third in the $36,500 Millennium Stakes at Evangeline Downs. As a 2-year-old, she won the Rebel Stakes in August at Louisiana Downs.Hallowed Dreams came into the Monique Rene off a two-month layoff during which time she underwent minor surgery. The Lloyd J. Romero trainee had been working well in the mornings but stumbled at the start before setting blazing early fractions (:21.20 and :43.89) and fading in the stretch as Midge Too pulled clear to win by two. 20-1 longshot Prized Amberpro finished second, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of the 1-5 favorite. Midge Too completed the six furlongs in 1:09.31 on a fast track and paid $12.20 for the win. The exacta returned $142.Hallowed Dreams was bred in Louisiana by Mike Kennington and races for owners Johnny Gaspard and Romero. (Chart, Equibase)
