From NYRAIt was a Travers Day like no other at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday. Saratoga and the Travers were never more popular through their long, storied history.
A record Travers day attendance of 60,486 wagered an all-time Saratoga record of $8,642,160. Both eclipsed records set last year of 54,116 and the $7,371,991 wagered on the Saratoga races on Travers day last year on site.
The on-track figures reflect wagering on Saratoga races only and do not include any simulcast wagering on site.
The total commingled handle of $34,529,273 was also an all-time record beating the $28,281,323 wagered nationally last year.
"We couldn't be more pleased," said NYRA President and COO Terry Meyocks. "The support of the upstate community and the popularity of Saratoga racing and the Travers nationally were very much in evidence today. The addition of Point Given to the race and the status he brought to the Travers took it to the next level. With the hype that came along with it here upstate, it became a spectacular event."
