Four U.S. horses, including dual champion Gio Ponti  , are among the 14 horses likely to contest the $10 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) at Meydan Racecourse March 27.

Joining Gio Ponti, who was the United States 2009 champion male turf horse and champion older male, in the 1 1/4-mile World Cup are additional U.S. horses and grade I winners Take the Points, Richard's Kid  , and Furthest Land. Although based in Great Britain, Gitano Hernando, another Cup contender, won the Goodwood Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita and is owned by American-based Team Valor International.

The rest of the probable field consists of Allybar, Crowded House, Gloria de Campeao, Lizard’s Desire, Mastery, Mr Brock, Red Desire, Twice Over, and Vision d'Etat.

In addition to the four horses in the world’s richest race, five other U.S.-based runners will compete in the seven Thoroughbred races on the eight-race World Cup card.

The sole U.S. entrant in the $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-I) is Presious Passion, with Courageous Cat   and The Usual Q.T. entered in the Dubai Duty Free (UAE-I). The sole U.S. runner in the Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I) is Kinsale King, and California Flag  is entered in the Al Quoz Sprint (UAE-III).

The final fields will be set at the declaration stage March 22.
