Eagle Mountain

Eagle Mountain, an Irish champion and runner-up in the 2008 Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT), has been retired from racing after injuring a tendon while in training. He had finished second at Meydan in Dubai Feb. 19 in what was his final race. Breeding plans are being decided.

“This is his third career-threatening injury and enough is enough,” said Mike de Kock, who trained the 6-year-old son of Rock of Gibraltar for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa.

Eagle Mountain finished second to Conduit in the Breeders’ Cup Turf in his sole North American start. He won such stakes as the 2008 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup (HK-I) and placed in the classic Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) and Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-I). Prior to racing for his current owner, he was campaigned by Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith.

For his carer, Eagle Mountain finished first or second in a dozen of 19 races and earned $3,521,721.

Bred in Great Britain by London Thoroughbred Services, Eagle Mountain is a half brother to English and French champion Sulk and is out of the winning Darshaan mare Masskana.
