Last year’s champion juvenile male,Lookin At Lucky , is on schedule for his first start of the year, the March 13 Rebel Stakes (gr. II) at Oaklawn Park, after a workout at Santa Anita March 8.
The 3-year-old son of Smart Strike worked five furlongs in 1:01 1/5, though trainer Bob Baffert told Daily Racing Form “he actually went three-quarters and out seven-eighths. I had him in 1:15 and change.”
Baffert told the paper Lookin At Lucky, owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman would ship to Arkansas March 9. Garrett Gomez will be aboard the champion in his 2010 debut.
Lookin at Lucky won five of six starts last year, sealing championship honors with a victory in the Dec. 12 CashCall Futurity, his third grade I win during the year.
All of the colt’s race have been in California on synthetic surfaces, so this will not only be his first start as a 3-year-old but first outside the state and first on dirt.
