Spa-Loving Dream Supreme Looms Ballerina Choice

Kinsman Stable's Dream Supreme, an nine-time winner in 14 starts, looms the odds-on favorite in Sunday's $250,000 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga. A field of five was entered in the grade I test at seven furlongs.

Dream Supreme, trained by Bill Mott and to be ridden by Pat Day, is undefeated in three starts at Saratoga. In addition, she's four-for-five at seven furlongs.

"There are a lot of things going for her now," Mott said. "I wish the field was a little bigger than five horses, but what are you going to do? I've been very happy with her training up here. She's very consistent. You know what to expect from her."

Dream Supreme, the co-highweight at 122 pounds, will start from post three. The field is completed by Country Hideaway, with jockey John Velazquez, at 118 pounds; Shine Again, Jean-Luc Samyn, 113; Imadeed, Gary Stevens, 113; and Spain, Jerry Bailey, 122.

Spain, winner of last year's Breeders' Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs, hasn't raced since a fourth-place finish in the Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park in early April. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas said Spain is "on target" for the Ballerina.

"She got a little bit of a freshening period," Lukas said. "We think she has a legitimate chance to defend her title in the Breeders' Cup. I'm hoping to get her back to the form she had last fall."
