First-year stallion Sea The Stars , a dual Cartier Award winner and six-time group I victor in 2009, has five notable mares confirmed in foal, according to the Racing Post.
The group is led by Zarkasha, the dam of 2008 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) winner Zarkava. Zarkava, who recently produced her first foal, a Dalakhani filly, is scheduled to be bred to Sea The Stars this year.
Also in foal to Sea The Stars according to Racing Post is Bordighera, the dam of Stan James 2,000 Guineas (Eng-I) winner George Washington and three-time group I winner Grandera. Last year’s Darley Prix Jean Romanet (Fr-I) winner Alpine Rose has also been scanned in foal, as have Centreofattention, a full sister to Irish group I winner Holy Roman Emperor, and Seward’s Folly, the dam of group II winner Sayif.
Sea The Stars, who was beaten just once in nine lifetime starts, was undefeated in six starts as a 3-year-old in 2009 while running exclusively in group I company. The son of Cape Cross-Urban Sea, by Miswaki became the first horse in 20 years to win both the Stanjames.com 2,000 Guineas (Eng-I) at Newmarket, and the Investec Derby (Eng-I) at Epsom Downs.
Sea The Stars concluded his career with a win in the prestigious Arc, earning him Cartier honors as champion 3-year-old male and horse of the year.
Sea The Stars is standing his first season at stud in 2010 at The Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud in Co. Kildare, Ireland. His stud fee is 85,000 euros.
