Jockey Rajiv Maragh Claims 1,000th Victory

Rajiv Maragh celebrates the 1,000th victory of his career.
Jockey Rajiv Maragh earned the 1,000th victory of his career when Mint Maker rallied late to get up in the final strides of Gulfstream Park's fourth race on Feb. 26.
The half-length victory came in a $25,000 claiming race at one mile on the turf. Mint Maker, a 3-year-old gelded son of Unbridled's Song, runs for My Purple Haze Stables and trainer Teresa Pompay.
The 24-year-old Maragh, a native of Jamaica, is a regular on the New York circuit. He has won 76 stakes in his career, including 21 in graded stakes.
Maragh had a big year in 2009, winning the First Lady (gr. IT) and Just A Game (gr. IT) aboard Diamondrella, the Beldame (gr. I) and Ballerina (gr. I) on Music Note, the Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I) and Go For Wand (gr. I) with Seventh Street, and the Darley Alcibiades (gr. I) on Negligee. In 2008, he teamed with Little Belle to capture the Ashland Stakes (gr. I).
So far in 2010, he ranks 24th in jockey standings with $795,839, including 28 wins in 215 mounts through Feb. 26.
