Emerald Downs has instituted a new entry schedule for the 2010 racing season. The track is located in Auburn, Wash.

Double entries for Saturday and Sunday will be taken every Wednesday, entries for Friday will be drawn Saturday, and entries for Thursday will be taken Friday. It equates to a 72 to 96-hour draw for weekend programs and a 144-hour draw for weeknight racing.

“It's something different, and the horsemen seem to think it will be to their advantage,” said racing secretary Bret Anderson. “It gives them more flexibility in their training schedule.”

In the past, Emerald Downs has generally used 48-hour draws for weekends and 72-hour draws for weekdays.

The 89-day meeting begins Friday, April 9, and ends Sunday, Sept. 26. Anderson said opening week would have a slightly different schedule. Entries for opening night will be taken Tuesday, April 6; entries for Saturday, April 10, and Sunday, April 11, will be taken Wednesday, April 7; and entries for Friday, April 16, will be drawn Saturday, April 10.
