The Monday, Feb. 15, Presidents' Day card at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark. was cancelled following the fourth race due to cold temperatures and unsafe track conditions.
The featured Southwest Stakes (gr. III) for 3-year-olds will be rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20. The key prep race will be redrawn on Feb. 18.
There was a small amount of snowfall overnight and temperatures in Hot Springs hovered around the freezing mark when racing began in the afternoon. Jockeys returning after the fourth race reported ice hitting their goggles and several had broken goggles.
"The track was starting to ice up," track announcer Terry Wallace said. (The ice) was balling up; it was flying back and hitting the jockeys. A couple had broken goggles.''
The holiday race card at Turfway Park was also canceled due to an emerging winter storm.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, a total of three to six inches of snow was expected to fall in the metropolitan region, which includes the northern Kentucky area where Turfway Park is located.
The high temperature was forecast to be 28 degrees, with a low of 21.
In another cancellation, there was no live racing at Beulah Park in Ohio on Monday.
