Sent off at 25-1 odds, Italian-trained Super Tassa posted a stunning upset Wednesday in the Aston Upthorpe Yorkshire Oaks (Eng-I) at York, England. According to Sporting Life, the win by the 5-year-old daughter of Lahib was the first in Britain since 1960 for a horse trained in Italy. Sacred Song, the U.S.-bred Diesis filly sent off the 2-1 favorite, finished a length behind the winner.

Ridden by Kevin Darley, Super Tassa assumed the lead approaching the final furlong in the race run at slightly less than 1 1/2 miles. Super Tassa is trained by Valfredo Valiani, who owns the mare in partnership with Englishman Cyril Humphries.

The mare was in the care of Luca Cumani during the 10 days prior to the Yorkshire Oaks. Valiani, who received his training in Britain, formerly was associated with Cumani.

The victory was the biggest among the seven wins from 23 starts for Super Tassa, whose previous best was a group II win in Italy earlier this year.
